Important Information Regarding Your Newly Adopted Pet’s Microchip

Thank you for adopting a cat or dog from Animal Friends Alliance! We use Found Animals microchips. If your pet received a Found Animals chip from us, you can register it through the Found Animals website.

Some of our animals come to us already chipped with a different brand of microchip. In those cases, there are a few steps that need to be taken to ensure your new pet’s microchip is registered under you in all pertinent databases. You can tell the brand of the microchip by the numbers at the beginning of the chip:

  • If your pet’s microchip number starts with “982xxxxxxxxxxxx” or “0A1xxxxxxxxxxxx” it is a 24PetWatch Microchip. You will need to register it by contacting 24PetWatch at 1-866-597-2424 or going to 24petwatch.com
  • If your pet’s microchip number starts with “9810xxxxxxxxxxx” it is a Found Animals Microchip. You will need to register it by calling 1-855-738-2447 or by going to foundanimals.org. There is no charge.
  • If your pet’s microchip number starts with “985xxxxxxxxxxxx” or “4xxxxxxxxx” it is a HomeAgain Microchip. You will need to register it by calling 1-866-466-3242 or by going to homeagain.com. The cost may be up to $19.99.
  • If your pet’s microchip number starts with “956xxxxxxxxxxxx” or “00xxxxxxxx” it is an AKC Reunite Microchip. You will need to register it by calling 1-800-252-7894 or by going to akcreunite.org. The cost may be up to $17.50.
  • If your pet’s microchip number starts with “981xxxxxxxxxxxx” it is a PetLink Microchip. You will need to register it by calling 1-877-738-5465 or by going to petlink.net/us/welcome. The cost may be up to $19.99. If you are a new client with PetLink you can use the code “ADOPTAPET” to register the chip for only $9.99.
  • If your pet’s microchip number starts with “911xxxxxxxxxxxx” it is a 911 Pets Microchip. You will need to register it by calling 1-888-546-7615 or by going to 911petchip.com. there is no charge.

If you have a microchip that does not match any of these numbers, please contact us at our Mulberry campus for cats at (970) 484-8516 or our Taft Hill campus at (970) 224-3647 for dogs, so we can help you determine the correct Microchip company. You may also use the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup website. It’s important to contact the microchip company and Animal Friends Alliance if your contact information changes after adoption to ensure everyone has the most up to date information in case your pet goes missing.
